I didn't back into computer graphics from an innate knowledge of t-squares and drafting tables.
I learned computer graphics from a forward understanding of Macintosh systems and software.
That sequence gave me a great, intuitive sense for how things should work, what's likely to be
the best tool & technique for the job and how to get the thing right on the first try.

That's good, because in marketing, everyone's always in a hurry. Until something goes wrong.
Then no one's in a hurry.

I started professional design work in 1990. Since then, I've been an art director, a marketing director,
